The opening of Thanassis Polykandriotis’ performances in “Egli” every Friday and Saturdy is a fact since the 10th of February. ten artistically excellent performances of the great bouzouki master, Thanassis Polykandriotis.
We all remember the musical ensemble of 47 bouzoukia that took part in the ATHENS 2008 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, and his brilliant collaborations with all of our great singers, Kazantzidis, Dionysiou, Parios, Marinella, Voskopoulos, Poulopoulos and more.
Polykandriotis’ shows in “Egli… tou politismou” are based on songs of the soul, presented by singers and musicians from Thessaloniki. Once again, Polykandriotis stands next to the young artists, imparting his experiences gained in his 40-year career in folk music.
The program consists of two parts. First, the composer takes “Egli’s” stage back to 1972 when Manos Chatzidakis invited him to record “Hard April of ’45” which includes songs by Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis, Mpagianteras, Kaldaras, Mitsakis, etc.
Next, the second part is dedicated to the composer’s songs that we all loved through the voices of Stratos, Kazantzidis, Marinella, Voskopoulos, Parios and many more.
Songs like «Zilevo ta poulia», «Ti ekana gia parti mou», «Ta pires ola ki efiges», «Ta mazepsa ta pragmata», «Ta vasana mou ena fortio», «Kai lege lege», «Stou fegariou tin agalia» etc. along with songs by Zampetas, Akis Panou, Plessas, Loizos, Xarchakos, Theodorakis, and a special tribute to Stavros kougioumtzis, are Polykandriotis’ bet for cultured and genuine folk entertainment.
Stavroula Arvanitopoulou (1st Award in Thessaloniki Festival) and Yiorgos Christodoulou sing. The folk orchestra comprised of drums, guitar, piano, bass guitar, accordion is completed by two young people from Thessaloniki, co-workers and students of Polykadriotis, Argyro Keramida on the bouzouki and Dimos Spanoudakis on tzouras and vocals.
